Section 2: Policy Statement – Field Safety
The University of Nevada, Reno is committed to ensuring that all institutionally sponsored field activities are conducted in a safe manner that protects the health and well-being of all participants.
This policy establishes procedures for informing employees and students of potential health hazards associated with field site activities. Because traditional campus resources, such as Environmental Health & Safety, the University of Nevada, Reno Police Department, and Business Center North (BCN) Risk Management, are generally not available at remote sites, fieldwork must be thoroughly planned prior to departure.
All participants in field activities share responsibility for promoting a safe working environment. Pre-trip training is required and must address anticipated hazards, safety precautions, necessary communications, and emergency procedures. Activities should be designed, conducted, and managed in a manner that reasonably protect human health and safety.
Adherence to these principles is essential to fulfill the University of Nevada, Reno mission.
