Summary

Andrew "Andy" Martin has worked with the University of Nevada, Reno's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) department since 2025. He has served as the Biological Safety Officer (BSO) for the University's Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) since 2026 and has coordinated the University's quarterly biological safety cabinet (BSC) certification program since 2025.

Prior to employment at the University, Andy completed a postdoctoral fellowship through the National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program (NBBTP) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His graduate school studies involved better understanding host-pathogen relationships between the intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii and its mammalian hosts and finding ways to support his peer's research endeavors. During his undergraduate education, he was involved in many diverse clubs and independent research projects while following his passion for supporting, encouraging, and mentoring young scientists and scholars however he can, which continues through his employment at the University of Nevada, Reno.
