Application procedure
The Ph.D. in Business Administration (Finance) program is governed by University of Nevada, Reno Graduate School requirements. All material should be submitted online through the Graduate School.
Applicants should submit the following:
- All required application materials as required by the Graduate School admissions requirements, including
- Official transcripts from all postsecondary educational institutions
- GRE or GMAT scores.
- Two letters of recommendation from people familiar with the applicant's academic record and potential for doctoral work in finance.
- Personal Statement
- Optional: Prospective students may elect to submit resumes and short examples of written work (articles published and/or working papers).
Candidates seeking assistantships should indicate their preference for teaching versus research assistantships in the University's application for graduate school admission.
Admission criteria
Students are admitted based upon a holistic review of prior degrees, grade point averages, test scores (GMAT or GRE), and most importantly passion for research and alignment with faculty research streams. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review faculty publications and to discuss potential areas of interest/overlap in applicant letter of intent. Competition for graduate assistantships is high and successful applicants will have above average scores.
Successful applicants typically have a GMAT or GRE score above the 80th percentile and an academic background that includes at least one full year of undergraduate calculus. While a prior graduate degree is desirable, it is not required for admission. We do not require applicants to hold a specific undergraduate degree or major. Students with academic backgrounds including natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, engineering, and computer science, as well as accounting, finance, economics, and business administration are encouraged to apply. Candidates from a wide range of analytical backgrounds have the potential to succeed and thrive in the program.
International students
The TOEFL or the IELTS (must be academic version) test is required for international students. International students must fulfill all University of Nevada, Reno Graduate School requirements.
