Economics Ph.D. Tuition
Tuition, Assistantships, Scholarships, and Financial Aid
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees for the Ph.D program in Economics vary based on several factors, including the number of applicable transfer credits, residency status (Nevada resident, out-of-state, international, or from a Western Regional Graduate Program state), and whether the student holds a graduate assistantship at UNR. Learn more about tuition and fees.
Graduate Assistantships
The Department of Economics offers a limited number of Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs). GRAs support faculty research projects, while GTAs receive teaching-skills training through the Graduate School.
Priority is given to continuing students making satisfactory progress. Remaining positions are awarded to incoming students based on their preparation and potential for success in the Ph.D. program. Students without initial funding are automatically considered in future years.
Graduate assistants are classified as Nevada residents for tuition purposes. Students with 20 hours/week assistantships must enroll for a minimum of six graduate credits per semester.
Assistantships may be held for up to five years for doctoral students, or six years for those entering the Ph.D program after completing an M.S. degree at UNR.
All applicants to the Ph.D. program are automatically considered for assistantships—no separate application is required. Learn more about assistantships at the University's Graduate School website.
Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is available to meet with any students needing information on federal- and state-based financial aid programs.
Scholarships
Graduate students at the University have access to a variety of fellowships and awards, as well as opportunities to secure external funding to support their education.
