Undergraduate research scholarships

Friends of CABNR Internship Scholarships (one award of ~$900)

  • Major within the College
  • Nevada residents
  • Have attended an accredited high school in northern or rural Nevada counties
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 12 credits per semester (15 recommended)
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Must be actively engaged in a research project or internship within the College
  • Must provide a letter of support from a faculty member with whom the student will be working
  • One year scholarship

Robert & Twyila Whear Scholarship (one award of ~$800)

  • Major within the College
  • Junior or senior standing
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 12 credits per semester (15 recommended)
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Prefer students who have demonstrated an active, thought-provoking approach to problem-solving through research papers prepared in courses within the College or participation in undergraduate research with College faculty as identified from College scholarship committee solicitations of recommendations from College faculty
  • Non-renewing scholarship

Byer, Norma & Ellis Byer Scholarship (four awards of ~$1,100 each)

  • Major within the College
  • Junior or senior standing
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 12 credits per semester (15 recommended)
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Will undertake activities in biotechnology research, with faculty advisement, such as internships, research projects or other creative tasks in which the students take an active, involved and thought-provoking approach to problem-solving
  • Must provide a proposal of activities to be conducted with the approval of their faculty advisor
  • One year scholarship

Louis and Genevieve Capurro Scholarship (nine awards of at least $1,000 each)

  • Major within the College
  • Junior or senior standing
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 12 credits per semester (15 recommended)
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Must have worked with a faculty member in a research setting relating to agricultural enhancement or agricultural issues related to the Great Basin

Greenfield Animal Hospital Scholarship (one award of ~$700)

  • Veterinary Science major
  • Junior or senior standing
  • Graduate of a rural high school in Nevada from any county except Clark and Washoe.
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 12 credits per semester (15 recommended)
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Prefer students who have demonstrated an active, thought-provoking approach to problem-solving through research papers prepared in Department of Agriculture, Nutrition & Veterinary Sciences courses or participation in undergraduate research with department faculty.

Dick Kleberg Beef Breeding Undergraduate Scholarships (Multiple scholarships of varying amounts)

  • Major pursuing a degree in Animal Science or a closely related field
  • Minimum sophomore standing
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 12 credits per semester (15 recommended)
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Actively engaged in research related to beef cattle breeding or a closely related field in animal science

Graduate Research Scholarships

Agriculture Research Fellow (Two Awards of ~$2,600)

  • Enrolled in CABNR affiliated Graduate Program
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 6 credits per semester
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • One year scholarship

Jay Dow Sr. Memorial Scholarship (One Award of ~$1,400)

  • Enrolled in CABNR affiliated Graduate Program
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno cumulative Graduate GPA
  • Minimum 6 credits per semester
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • First preference for those conducting research projects involving the biology of aquatic birds, especially shorebirds and waterfowl, and preferably within the Honey Lake Basin
  • Second preference for those undertaking research projects involving the conservation of wetlands or the biology of wetland plants and animals
  • Must submit a CV, a two-page research proposal and two letters of recommendation from instructors or researchers (other than professor) to the CABNR Scholarship Committee

Joan M. Comanor Scholarship (Two Awards of at least $1,100)

  • Enrolled in CABNR affiliated Graduate Program
  • Female student
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 6 credits per semester
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Graduate level majors in environmental and natural resource science programs including environmental science, hydrology and natural resource sciences. If no eligible graduate candidates, other female students may be considered in the following order: undergraduates in environmental and natural resource sciences, graduates in field biology, undergraduates in field biology
  • No awards in conservation biology or wildlife sciences

Nevada Woolgrowers Association (Two Awards of ~$1,250)

  • Enrolled in CABNR affiliated Graduate Program
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 6 credits per semester
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Actively engaged in graduate research advancing rangeland sheep production in Nevada
  • Recipient or advisor must report on the research performed at the annual Nevada Woolgrowers Association meeting

Dick Kleberg Beef Breeding Graduate Scholarships (Multiple Scholarships of Varying Amounts)

  • CABNR major pursuing a degree in Animal Science or a closely related field
  • Minimum Sophomore standing
  • Minimum 3.00 University of Nevada, Reno GPA
  • Minimum 9 credits per semester
  • Must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Actively engaged in research related to beef cattle breeding or a closely related field in animal science
  • One year scholarship
