Summary
Tom Weller, Ph.D., is the dean of the College of Engineering. Before joining the University of Nevada, Reno, he was school head of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the College of Engineering at Oregon State University. Dean Weller’s research experience is in applied electromagnetics, with specific applications that include microwave and mmWave circuit, sensor and antenna design; additive manufacturing; and equivalent circuit modeling. He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Dean Weller also is an inventor or co-inventor of 45 issued U.S. patents and is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. He has supervised 28 Ph.D. students to completion and has supported student-focused initiatives designed to create a community of scholars and provide professional and academic opportunities.
Dean Weller’s research focuses on applied electromagnetics, with an emphasis on the design, fabrication and characterization of high-frequency circuits, antennas and sensors. He has supervised more than 130 research projects and received grants totaling more than $16.5 million as principal investigator and $8.5 million as co-principal investigator from agencies that include the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Department of Transportation, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Army Research Laboratory, the Economic Develop Administration, the state of Oregon and several private companies.
