Instructions for InfoEd Approvals

As a reminder, approving a proposal in InfoEd has multiple steps. Please follow these instructions to make sure your approval is recorded.

  • Look for an email from Sponsored Projects titled “Review & Approval Needed: Proposal # ____.” That email contains a link to complete your review. You can also simply log into InfoEd and the Review Notice will be on your home page.
  • Select the “Proposal Development Record” to look at the full proposal in InfoEd.
  • After you’ve checked all of the proposal sections for accuracy, go back to the Dashboard and change the “Review Status” of all items to “Reviewed.”
  • Enter any comments you have about the proposal (Optional). These will be viewable by anyone who reviews the proposal after you.
  • Select a decision (these options only become available after all items are switched to “Reviewed.”)
  • Finally, to verify that your approval has been recorded, click on the “Route” tab and make sure it says “Approved” next to your name.

Instructions for tracking a proposal in routing

After a proposal is completed in InfoEd, it goes through an internal review process. During this time, UNR personnel can add comments/instructions to the proposal, which ultimately moves to the SP Pre-Award Team for final review.

Typically, the approval routing process includes the following stops:

  • Principal Investigator (this is always first)
  • College of Science Grant Support Team
  • Department Chair
  • Associate Dean
  • Sponsored Projects (SP)

If you have a Co-I or key personnel from other departments/colleges, additional steps will be added.

*To check on the progress of your proposal once it’s begun routing, follow these steps:

  • Once you’ve logged into InfoEd, on the left side of the screen under “Sponsored Projects” click “Locate My Records” and select the appropriate proposal by hovering over the proposal number and clicking “Edit” next to “Proposal Development”.
  • This will open up your proposal in a new window. On the left-side menu (with the little checkmarks), click the “Finalize”
  • From this screen, scroll down to view the table titled “Active Routing Progress.” This table shows you who has “Approved,” who has been skipped (Not Applicable) and who has been “Informed” – that is how you know the status of your proposal. If you do not see a pencil icon next to a person’s name, they have not approved yet. If you notice your proposal has been stuck at the same step for a while, it is in your best interest to remind that individual to log on and review.

Instructions for creating/viewing a proposal in InfoEd

Once you have a draft of your proposal document, a completed budget spreadsheet, and a budget justification, you are ready to create your proposal in InfoEd. Ideally, this process should be started AT LEAST a week prior to the submission deadline. Two weeks is preferred, and allows for a more thorough review from Sponsored Projects.

To Create a New Proposal:

  • Contact Danny Sierra (dsierra@unr.edu) in the Dean’s office to get started. He will make sure all of the required information is collected to get the proposal created in InfoEd.

PLEASE NOTE: The Grant Support Team will help you regardless of how close you are to the deadline. Please be aware that assistance may be limited in cases where advance notice of the proposal was not given.

To View an Existing Proposal:

  • Once you’ve logged into InfoEd, on the left side of the screen under “Sponsored Projects” click “Locate My Records” and select the appropriate proposal by hovering over the proposal number and clicking “Edit” next to “Proposal Development”.
  • This will open up your proposal in a new window and allow you to make changes. Before you can edit any section, you have to click on the box next to “Complete” in the right corner, removing the check mark and allowing you to make changes to that page.
  • Be sure that once you’ve edited the sections in the menu, you check the box marked “Complete” in the right corner. You can easily tell which sections are complete by looking for a little check mark that will appear on the main screen. In order to finalize and submit the proposal, all sections must be marked “Complete.”
