  • AlertTahoe

    AlertTahoe is an innovative program to keep Tahoe and regional areas safe through one-of-a-kind, real-time Fire Camera, Earthquake and Flood Emergency Information System. Your gift to AlertTahoe will support installation and maintenance of additional Fire Cameras in the Tahoe Basin, plus further development of both an emergency personnel and public web interface.

  • Biodiversity Transect

    Land development, climate change and the application of pesticides have reduced the opportunities for wild plants and animals to lead the lives that they have been leading for hundreds of thousands of years. Because they rely on plants and interact with numerous other animals, butterflies, the focus of this research project, are the most visible representatives of complex ecosystems. Monitoring and conservation of butterflies will help us understand and preserve natural landscapes. Your gift supports graduate student level research, monitoring and conservation of butterflies in the region.

  • Cognitive and Brain Sciences Graduate Program

    The Cognitive and Brain Sciences Program is a graduate program within the Department of Psychology that specializes in training students in the neural bases of human behavior, cognition, and perception. This research focused graduate program has strong collaborative links with several other departments on campus, including Biology, Medicine, Computer Science; the Graduate Programs in Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience; as well as the COBRE-sponsored Center for Integrative Neuroscience and the Nevada Neuroscience Institute. The department has also established multiple research initiatives, linking our labs with research institutions across the country to study attention and perception. The Graduate Program offers both master's and doctoral degrees. Students in the program obtain a strong foundation in current theory and have the opportunity to specialize within a number of substantive areas of research, including cognitive neuroscience, memory, color vision, consciousness and many others.

  • College of Science Annual Fund

    Unrestricted gifts to the College of Science spur the College’s growth, allowing us to continue providing the best education possible to students pursuing the sciences. The success of our programs, new program development, faculty success in teaching and research as well as academic experiences for students is made possible through consistent support.

  • College of Science General Scholarship Fund

    The College of Science scholarship provides financial support for a student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in any department in the College of Science or Mackay School. This scholarship is selected by the College of Science Scholarship Committee and is based on merit. Scholarships make a difference in attracting and retaining the best and brightest students, many of whom would be unable to pursue their educational goals without the help that scholarships provide. Supporting a scholarship directly impacts the life of a student and, in turn, improves our community.

  • College of Science Memorial Gifts

    You can honor a faculty member, friend, or University of Nevada, Reno alumnus with a memorial donation. Please indicate the honoree's name in the comments section.

  • College of Science No Boundaries Fund

    The College of Science values scientific curiosity, discovery and a bold quest for new knowledge. Sound scientific ethics, integrity, respect for colleagues and different forms of scholarship, and impartiality are our guiding principles. The college values the wise distribution of faculty positions, space and other resources that reflects excellence in academic programs, success in obtaining extramural funding, research productivity, growth opportunities and instructional demands.   • Discover Science Lecture Series

    Gifts to the College of Science's Discover Science Lecture Series directly supports our efforts to bring renowned scientists from all over the country to the University of Nevada, Reno campus to present their knowledge to the community in a series of free, engaging lectures at the Redfield Auditorium in the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center.

  • Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology

    Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology is an interdisciplinary program bringing together faculty and students from multiple departments and institutions at the University of Nevada, Reno, the Desert Research Institute and the Great Basin Institute. Your gift promotes discovery and innovation by supporting student academic success, faculty teaching and research, the department's growth and new program development.

  • Geological Sciences and Engineering

    The Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno studies the Earth and its construction and the natural processes that have - and continue - to shape it. Your gift supports student academic success, faculty teaching and research, the department's growth and new program development.

  • Global Water Center

    The Global Water Center is a response to societal demands for creative, integrative approaches in solving complex issues related to water resources. Your gift will support the Center's efforts to translate basic science and research into actionable solutions accessible to stakeholders, and will have a direct impact on protecting and improving worldwide water conditions.

  • Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences

    The Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences (GPHS) is one of the nation’s top graduate programs in the hydrologic sciences and is consistently ranked among the top 10 in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. GPHS, a true collaboration between the University of Nevada, Reno and the Desert Research Institute, administers two graduate degrees at both the Master and Doctoral levels in Hydrology and Hydrogeology, with a shared fundamental core and differing electives. 

  • Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library Endowment

    The Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library (GBSSRL) houses the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, the Geological Society of Nevada, and offers publication sales and information offices. Housed within the GBSSRL are vast collections of reports and rock and mineral specimens on Nevada’s geology, resources and geologic hazards. Gifts to this fund will help build an endowment to support the valuable services of the GBSSRL in perpetuity.

  • Hitchcock Center for Chemical Ecology

    The Hitchcock Center for Chemical Ecology's goal is to conduct high quality research focused on some of the most important basic and applied questions in chemistry, biology and ecology, with the guiding themes of understanding chemical and biological diversity in the tropics and bio-prospecting in Nevada’s Great Basin. The program's research in relatively unexplored regions of the world adds critical data to important basic research questions and may yield novel natural products with therapeutic and agricultural potential.

  • Hydrologic Sciences Scholarship Endowment

  • Melissa Bell Endowment for Mackay Student Travel

    After 32 years of dedicated service, Melissa Bell retired from her role as executive assistant to the Dean of the College of Science. Melissa was known as a champion for the college's students, faculty, staff and alumni. Her greatest love, though, was working with students in the Mackay School. In recognition of this commitment to Mackay Students, the College of Science established the Melissa Bell Endowment for Mackay Student Travel to help fund Mackay student trips. This way, Melissa will forever be connected to generations of Mackay student networking, success and growth. Contributing to this fund will help the financial burden of the cost of travel on students so they can benefit fully from the hands-on experiences presented by the Mackay School.

  • Mining and Metallurgical Engineering

  • Museum of Natural History

    The biological research and teaching collections from the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources and the College of Science were integrated into a single natural history museum which opened in March 2014. The Museum of Natural History is the result of decades of collection and work by University faculty, students, technicians and volunteers, dating back to the 1850s. As the only museum of its kind in the state, the Museum of Natural History is a unique and important resource for understanding Nevada's and the Great Basin’s natural heritage.

  • Nevada Seismological Laboratory

    The Nevada Seismological Laboratory is a research division within the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno. The Laboratory has overall responsibility for instrumental studies of earthquakes in the Nevada region. The laboratory operates a statewide network of seismographic stations and investigates the sizes, frequencies of occurrence, and distribution of earthquakes in the region and other problems related to seismic risk in Nevada. Your gift supports operations, research and education.

  • NevadaTeach

    The NevadaTeach program invites undergraduates pursuing majors in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) fields to earn either another degree in secondary education or to gain a certification for secondary education while completing their STEM coursework. NevadaTeach is a collaborative effort by the Colleges of Education, Engineering, Science and Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources. Your gift to this fund represents an investment in the long-term sustainability of the NevadaTeach program, and directly supports student success.

  • Physics

  • Psychology

    Psychology is one of the largest programs on the University of Nevada campus. The department has a strong national and international reputation and offers undergraduate degrees in general psychology, research, or behavior analysis. Additionally, students can pursue a Masters of Arts in Behavior Analysis and doctoral degrees in behavior analysis, clinical psychology or cognitive brain sciences. The Department of Psychology also contributes to interdisciplinary degrees in neuroscience and social psychology.

  • Ralph J. Roberts Center for Research in Economic Geology (CREG)

    Research at the Center for Research in Economic Geology (CREG) includes application of a wide variety of techniques to the understanding of the origin of Carlin-type gold deposits; high-and low-sulfidation epithermal vein deposits; Au-Cu porphyry deposits and volcanic systems of the Pacific Rim as analogues to porphyry and vein deposits. CREG supports numerous student research projects on mineral deposits. Your gift to the Center supports research and innovation in working to understand mineral deposits.

  • ScienceFIT

    ScienceFIT Bootcamp for Academic Success is a six-day intensive academic program designed to increase success for students with majors in the College of Science. The program offers a glimpse into the University’s rigorous academic expectations and college life along with campus resources, services, and policies prior to the start of the semester. Our annual program support goal is $100,000.

    Your donation will help a student to:

    • Attend lectures from faculty who teach the courses
    • Take actual exams and complete homework assignments
    • Develop and hone critical skills necessary to be successful in college
    • Meet and interact with faculty, academic advisors, current upperclassmen students, and their freshmen peers
    • Learn about campus resources, services, and policies to be a successful University student
    • Have the opportunity to move into their assigned residence hall room
    • Earn 1 college credit upon successful completion
  • TW Bell Research

    The Bell research group, led by College of Science Professor Thomas Bell, is working toward the prevention of and treatments for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease. Currently, the group is screening known and experimental drugs for decreasing expression of the ACE2 receptor that binds the Spike protein on the virus and allows it to enter and attack human cells. Through your support, this research has the potential to lead to the development of new drugs that could help people survive being infected with COVID-19.

  • Unrestricted Excellence Fund

    Gifts to the Unrestricted Excellence Fund go where they’re needed most to accomplish the University’s mission of excellence in instruction, world-improving research and meaningful community engagement. Your gift to this fund may provide scholarships for students, contribute to faculty salaries, fund an innovative education program, or support countless other initiatives around campus.

  • W.M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum

    Located in the Mackay Mines Building at the University of Nevada, Reno, the W.M. Keck Museum houses an outstanding collection of minerals, ores, fossil specimens and photographs, in addition to mining related relics. There is a special emphasis on early Nevada mining history with samples from famous mineral districts such as the Comstock Lode, Tonopah and Goldfield. The museum is also home to some of the spectacular Mackay Silver Collection, created for John Mackay by Tiffany & Co. and completed in 1878. Your gift supports collections management, exhibit development, educational outreach and operational expenses.
