To be considered, faculty must exhibit flexibility and a breadth of teaching experience; demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity and innovation in teaching; participation in activities that enrich teaching outside of the College of Science; positive correlation between grades and student performance; meeting the criteria of student learning outcomes and receiving consistent student evaluations; and other considerations. Eligible nominees include academic faculty of any rank holding a permanent appointment of at least 50% in a unit within the College of Science. Individuals may only receive this award once, and those who have already received a College-wide or University-level teaching award are not eligible.

Mousel-Feltner Award for Excellence in Research and/or Creative Activity

The Mousel-Feltner Award for Excellence in Research and/or Creative Activity recognizes a single creative or research accomplishment by a faculty member during a particular year. Eligible nominees include any tenured or tenure-track faculty member holding at least 0.5 FTE in the College of Science.

Hyung K. Shin Award for Excellence in Research

The Hyung K. Shin Award for Excellence in Research serves to reward outstanding research by faculty in the College of Science. The evaluation period for each award shall be the three calendar years immediately prior to the evaluation. While lifetime achievements may be considered as part of overall considerations of the committee and in the case of near “ties,” the award is primarily intended to reward outstanding achievements over a three-year period. Criteria for consideration may include the quality and impact of the research achievements, the quality of the publication media and the number or magnitude of publications. Research that has not been published during the three-year evaluation period should not be included for consideration. External funding may be used as an indicator of outside recognition of the quality of research, but this award is primarily intended to reward outstanding scientific research achievements rather than large amounts of funding. Eligible nominees include academic faculty of any rank holding a permanent appointment of at least 50% in a unit within the College of Science. Individuals may receive the award only once, and those who have received a College-wide or University-level teaching award are not eligible.
