Distinguished Faculty Award
One Distinguished Faculty Award is given each year to a late-career academic faculty member at the University of Nevada, Reno whose breadth and depth of accomplishments have made the University a better place. The recipient will receive a monetary award, a plaque, and recognition at the annual Honor the Best Ceremony in May.
Eligibility and nominations
Nominations should include a letter of recommendation and a curriculum vitae for the candidate, submitted through the nominee’s Dean’s Office in February of each year.
Nominations will be reviewed by the nominee’s Dean of each college, school, or unit, and the first choice from each college, school or unit will be forwarded, through the Office of the Provost, to the Distinguished Faculty Award Committee for consideration.
The following criteria will be considered:
- The nominee has positive and productive relationships with colleagues and students and is a respected faculty member.
- The nominee inspires and challenges students with their passion for the subject.
- The nominee has significant involvement in the University, which may include faculty development, programmatic development, research and/or innovation at the University of Nevada, Reno.
- The nominee has a record of leadership or influential roles at the University of Nevada, Reno.
- The nominee has a strong record of outreach and engagement with the public.
- The nominee has spent a substantial portion of their career at the University of Nevada, Reno and has demonstrated many years of dedication to serving the University. The nominee is late career near retirement or recently retired (no more than one year).
