OISS Checklist

Before you get started:

In order to enroll in classes before your arrival to the University of Nevada, Reno you will need to complete the following:

  1. Advising Form
  2. Immunization & Physical Evaluation Clearance Form
  3. Mandatory Pre-Enrollment Training
  4. English Bridge Test - given upon arrival
    • A temporary hold release can be done when the first three items are completed.
  • Advising Form - Download the form, complete the top part, then send the form to your department advisor to complete the bottom part. Undergraduate students must have their department advisor remove the Advising Hold once a course schedule has been agreed upon. Completed forms should be sent to oiss@unr.edu.
    • If transferring college work, please provide syllabi to your department advisor.
  • Immunization & Physical Evaluation Clearance Form - All students are required to provide the official immunization documents listed on the form. Please download the form and have your doctor complete it. Return to oiss@unr.edu.

Mandatory Pre-Enrollment Training

  • If you cannot log in using your NetID please create a login using your email address. This will be a temporary login until we can arrange for your login with your NetID.
  • You are required to review the learning contents (must mark as read) and the 2 online assessments as part of the mandatory pre-enrollment training. If you do not pass the 2 assessments within 3 attempts, you will be required to attend an "in-person" Check-In Meeting at OISS after you arrive at the University. Please note that you will not be able to register for classes before you attend the Check-In Meeting. Check-In Meetings will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning 2 weeks before the start of each semester.
  • If you pass the 2 assessments: You are not cleared for class registration yet! We will check if you have completed the advising and immunization requirements, as well.

Once you have completed all of the above, the OISS hold will be temporarily removed until your arrival to allow you to register for classes early.

The hold will be back on your account the week before classes begin or when you complete the remainder of the requirements. Please make sure that you register for classes within the temporary hold removal time because the hold will be added back on to your account on the start date listed on your Form I-20 or Form DS-2019. You may not enroll in classes until your assigned enrollment appointment found on your MyNEVADA account.

To permanently remove the hold, you must complete the following:

  • TB blood test in addition to the required immunizations listed above (see list of exempt countries on the second page of the Immunization/Health form).
  • English bridge test at the Intensive English Language Center (IELC) if you are not eligible for a waiver. Can only be taken at the University.
    • Students are exempt from taking the Bridge Test if they meet one of the following conditions (be prepared to show evidence of this when you check in at OISS):
      ◦TOEFL score of 100 (internet-Based Test), 600 (Paper-Based Test) or higher
◦IELTS score of 8.5 or higher
◦Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic with an equivalency score of 85.
◦Degree from an American university or college

◦TOEFL requirement waived for university admission for students coming from English speaking countries: Australia, Bahamas, Belize, British Guyana, Canada (except for Quebec), Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, St. Vincent, Trinidad & Tobago, and United Kingdom.
    • Students unable to attend the scheduled Bridge Placement Tests, may arrange for a personally more convenient time for a $150 fee. Failure to complete the Bridge Placement Test requirement may result in a hold being placed on the student's account.
