Core math advising

All new students (including freshmen, transfer students, and newly declared majors), continuing freshmen, sophomores meet with an Academic Advisor in the College of Science. Students in these categories should refer to the College of Science advising website for more information.

Faculty mentors

To meet with a faculty mentor, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Juniors and Seniors with a declared College of Science or Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering major
  • In good academic standing (University of Nevada, Reno cumulative GPA 2.0 or higher)

Students pursuing B.S. or B.A. degree programs in general mathematics, statistics, applied mathematics, and discrete mathematics/operations research have designated faculty mentors. To find your designated math faculty mentor(s), visit the College of Science faculty mentors webpage and navigate to the "Mathematics and Statistics" tab.

Core math advisors

The Silver Core Curriculum information is the foundation for undergraduate education at the University of Nevada, Reno. Every student must complete at least 3 units of an approved Quantitative Reasoning course. The ability to apply content from prerequisite courses is critical for student success in subsequent Quantitative Reasoning courses (CO2). Please schedule a meeting with one of our Core Advisors by email for matters related to the University's Silver Core general education requirements.
