  • 9th Street Road Closure

    Road closure notice


    Affected dates

    Monday, May 16, 2022, through Monday, Friday, July 8, 2022

    Description of work

    • Contractors will install the new pedestrian bridge between the Gateway Parking Complex and the lower campus.

    Impact

    • 9th Street will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Center Street and Evans Avenue.
    • The sidewalk between Interstate 80 and the Gateway Parking Complex will remain open for pedestrians.
  • Building 058 (former Facilities Services Bldg)

    Affected dates

    Monday, August 30, 2021, through Friday, November 25, 2022

    Description of work

    A contractor will decontaminate and remediate Building 058, located between Mackay School of Mines and the Ansari Business Building. After the remediation work is complete, the building will be renovated for administrative use.

    Impact for occupants

    • Pathways to the south and east entrances of the Ansari Business Building and the north entrance of Mackay Mines will be reduced. However, the entrances will remain open for the duration of the project.
    • The pedestrian ramp between the Ansari Business Building and the Utility Plant will be closed until January 18, 2022. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured around the Utility Plant for access to the south campus.
    • The service vehicle parking spaces on the west side of the Utility Plant will be closed until January 18, 2022.
    • The walkway between Mackay Mines and Scrugham Engineering and Mines, north of the Quad, will be closed off until November 25, 2022.
    • ADA access to buildings will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
  • Chemistry Building

    • A contractor will clean and seal the exterior brick of the building.
  • Effie Mona Mack (EMM)

    Description of work

    • HVAC heating will be temporarily shut down.
    • This work was scheduled on short notice to address a leak and replace piping, valves, and pumps that supply heat to the affected buildings.
  • Gateway Parking Complex

    Affected dates

    Monday, June 14, 2022, through Monday, November 28, 2022

    Description of work

    • Construction of a new seven-level, 811 stall parking garage. The project includes an accessible pedestrian bridge between the new parking garage and Morrill Hall.
    • The complex will be constructed in the Gateway District and is sited on the southwest corner of 9th and Lake Street.

    Impact for occupants

    • Lake Street, south of 9th Street will be closed.
    • The Silver 6 parking lot at the southeast corner of Center Street and 9th Street will be closed.
    • There will be intermittent sidewalk detours, road closures, and traffic control measures on 9th Street, between Center Street and Evans Avenue.
    • As campus and road access is impacted, advance notice and details will be provided.
    • Silver 6 permit holders may park in the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex. 
  • Leifson Physics

    Description of work

  • Lombardi Recreation Center (LRC)

    Description of work

    Contractors will renovate the women’s faculty locker room, restroom, and equipment room.

    Impact for occupants

    • The women’s locker room and women’s faculty locker room will be closed for the duration of this project.
    • The south portion of the men’s locker room will be converted into a temporary women’s locker room.
    • The north portion will remain the men’s locker room.
    • There will be intermittent noise, vibrations, and non-toxic odors associated with this work.
  • Manzanita Bowl (corner of N Virginia and 9th St)

    Monday, October 25, 2021, through Friday, April 29, 2022

    Description of work

    A contractor will construct a plaza and monument at the northeast corner of North Virginia Street and 9th Street.

    Impact for occupants

    North Virginia Street and 9th Street and the associated sidewalks will remain open for the duration of the project with only intermittent detours.

  • Manville Health Science (MHS)

    Description of work

    Contractors will renovate laboratories 20, 20A, 20B, 20C, and 21 in the Manville Health Science building.

    • There will be intermittent noise, dust, vibrations, and non-toxic odors associated with this project.
    • ADA access to the building will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
    • All building entrances will remain open.
  • Reynold's School of Journalism (RSJ)

    Description of work

  • Roadway and parking near EJCH, LP, and WRB

    Construction Notice for Roadway and Parking Area at Edmund J. Cain Hall (EJCH), Leifson Physics (LP), and William J. Raggio Building (WRB)

    Monday, May 16, 2022, through Friday, August 19, 2022

    Description of work

    • Contractors will improve walkways, roadways, parking spaces, and landscaping. The project includes twenty-five standard parking spaces, eight ADA parking spaces with access aisles, and a new ADA pathway between the upper and lower campus.

    Impact for occupants

    •  Portions of the Silver 3 parking lot area will be closed.
    • Loading and unloading for the Early Learning Center will be located between Edmund J. Cain Hall and the National Judicial College Building.
    • There will be noise and some dust from paving and concrete operations.

     

  • The Quad

    Affected dates

    Monday, April 4, 2022, through Friday, May 6, 2022

    Description of work

    • To ensure the appearance, beauty, and health of The Quad is at its best, Facilities Maintenance Services will close this area to public use beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through Friday, May 6, 2022. During this time, the lawn will be roped off, treated with organic materials, and over-seeded to enhance the growth and color. The grass will be irrigated and mowed periodically during this time. A contractor will prune multiple trees in and around The Quad.

    Impact for occupants

    • The Quad will be roped off and closed to the public.
    • ADA and pedestrian access to surrounding buildings and sidewalks will be maintained throughout the duration of the closure.
    • There may be intermittent noise, dust, and heavy equipment traffic associated with this closure.
    • Unpleasant odors may exist for a short period of time during the closure.
  • Wolf Shop in Joe Crowley Student Union (JCSU)

    Monday, November 1, 2021, through Friday, April 22, 2022

    Description of work

    Contractors will remodel the first and second floors of the Nevada Wolf Shop at the Joe Crowley Student Union.

    Impact for occupants

    • The Nevada Wolf Shop will remain open during construction, with alternating interior sections closed off to the public.
    • The main entrances and ADA-accessible routes will remain open.
    • There will be intermittent noise, dust, vibrations, and non-toxic odors associated with this project.
