Summary

Languages: English and Spanish (fluent in both)

My name is Francisco Barbosa and I am a first-generation, Mexican-American professional. Both of my parents immigrated from Veracruz, Mexico in pursuit of the American Dream. As a first-generation male of color, it was often rare to find positive depictions and/or representations of people that looked like me – especially in education. This inspired me to pursue a college plan that would allow me to become a High School English teacher as soon as I finished college. In 2017, I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Women’s Studies and in 2019 I received my Master of Education Secondary Education. Through these educational opportunities I was able to find my ultimate passion: working with first-generation students. I hope to inspire, teach and mentor first-generation students in helping them find their voice and potential throughout their entire educational journey.

I am currently the Senior Project Coordinator for the Upward Bound & Upward Bound Math + Science programs on campus where I advise, mentor and provide college preparatory, social and emotional instruction to first-generation, income-qualified high school students throughout their entire four years in High School.
