I attended the University of Chicago where I double majored in History and English Literature. After completing my B.A., I moved to Chile and worked as an English instructor at a private academy in Santiago. After spending a year in South America, I moved to England and earned a M.A. in Medieval Studies from the University of York. Then, I moved to Mexico and worked at a small university in Oaxaca where I taught English. After living for about a year in Mexico, I began to work on a Ph.D. in Literature at the University of Notre Dame with a focus on medieval and early modern Iberia.

As a graduate student at Notre Dame, I taught Spanish language and humanities courses, which focused on great works of literature, history, and philosophy. During this period, I also taught Spanish courses at Indiana University, South Bend. After finishing my Ph.D. in 2016, I worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Humanities at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. After a year in Turkey, I began working in the Core Humanities Program at the University of Nevada, Reno, in 2017.
