Summary

Originally from a small town in the foothills of northern California, Rachel moved to northern Nevada to pursue a degree in the geosciences, receiving her B.S. in Geology from the University of Nevada, Reno in May of 2010. She spent her first 4 years after graduation working for the Nevada Division of Minerals as a Geologist and GIS Specialist on the Abandoned Mine Lands program. During her time with the Division of Minerals, she visited many historic mining districts in Nevada, and fell in love with the Great Basin. She is currently working for Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology as an analyst in GIS and Cartography. Her main duties include creation and maintenance of web mapping applications, cartographic production of geologic maps and publications, and education and outreach in the geosciences for K-12 teachers and students, among others. In her last year at UNR, she worked as a teaching assistant in different geology classes and helped map portions of the surficial geology of Clark County, Nevada. She enjoys educating the public about geology and earth processes, painting the beautiful landscapes and birds of the Great Basin and eastern Sierra Nevada, working on her car, spending time with her family, and taking her toddler on adventures.
