For maximum financial aid and scholarship consideration, students must have a completed admissions application, transcripts, test scores (ACT/SAT), FAFSA/Institutional Methodology form, and a general scholarship application (MyNEVADA) on file by February 15th.

New freshman 4-year scholarships for Nevada residents

Eligible students may receive one of these awards. Scholarship awards are per year for up to four consecutive years or graduation (whichever occurs first).

General eligibility

  • Open to Nevada residents
  • Must be a new freshman starting Fall 2026
  • Must be pursuing first bachelor's degree
  • Must be enrolled full-time (15 credits, Fall/Spring semesters)
  • Must be enrolled in-person (online certificates/degree programs not eligible)
  • Must be enrolled in classes by June 15th

Transfer students are not eligible to receive the in-state renewable scholarships.

Unweighted GPA is calculated on a scale ranging from 0 to 4.0 and does not assign additional weight for courses like Honors or Advanced Placement.

Maintaining eligibility for continuing students

In order to maintain their four-year renewable scholarships, students must do the following:

General requirements

  • Maintain Nevada residency for tuition purposes
  • Meet federal Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
  • Earn/complete the minimum 15-credit requirement each semester (fall/spring only)

GPA requirements to maintain scholarship

GPA requirements are cumulative GPA at the University of Nevada, Reno.

  • Presidental Level Scholarship: 3.5
  • Provost Level Scholarship: 3.2
  • Nevada Scholars Scholarship: 2.9
  • Pack Pride Scholarship: 2.8
  • Alphie Scholarship: 2.8
  • Luna Scholarship: 2.8

GPA enforcement begins with the start of the student's second year the University.

FAQ about four-year scholarships for Nevada freshmen

 

Alternative one-year scholarship for Nevada residents

New freshman that do not submit SAT/ACT scores may receive a one-year award based on their unweighted1 cumulative high school GPA only. These scholarships are not stackable with the freshman 4-year scholarships or National Merit Scholarship.

We encourage you to submit your test scores to potentially qualify for a four-year renewable scholarship instead of a one-year scholarship.

The National Merit is the University’s most prestigious scholarship for entering freshmen who are National Merit Finalists who select our University as their first choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation before May 1.
