Derek Moore

Ph.D. in Chemical Physics

Summary

Derek has a background in both chemistry and physics, making the Chemical Physics program a natural choice for him. He is currently a member of Dr. Tucker's group in the Department of Chemistry. His research utilizes ultrafast spectroscopy to investigate the dynamics of a variety of systems, many of which have biological significance, on short timescales.

Research interests

  • Photostability and energy transfer in biologically relevant systems
  • Micelle rupture timescales via incorporation of photoswitches
  • RNA/DNA folding and dynamics
  • Vibrational probes as reporters of peptide and protein dynamics

Education

  • B.S. in Chemistry, University of Nevada, Reno, 2020
  • B.S. in Physics, University of Nevada, Reno, 2020
