Warning: Protect yourself in the job search
As you job hunt, be sure to use caution. Students should perform due diligence when offering, applying for, or accepting off-campus employment, as you are doing so at your own risk. It is unusual for an employer to request information from applicants such as tax, banking, and social security information or to send checks or payments before an interview, offer of employment, or work hours are completed. Please be aware of emails that use University faculty and staff names but have non-University email addresses. If in doubt, you can forward the email to the Office of Information Technology (abuse@unr.edu) to have them check its authenticity. The Nevada Career Studio urges students to exercise careful judgment when responding to employer inquiries and to contact our office with questions or suspicions.
