Getting Started with Handshake: Employers
If you are a University department/office interested in creating a Handshake employer account, email us at handshake@unr.edu to receive specific instructions.
Your company profile is an extremely significant tool! Learn how to create an effective profile for your company/organization.
On Handshake, you can edit your company settings to provide accurate details about your company/organization and reflect your brand identity effectively.
How to Edit Your Company Profile Settings
Note: This is an action that can only be performed by the Owner or Admin.
You can update your email address as long as the new email address is not associated with another account. Our University policy requires all employers to use an organization email, rather than a personal one.
If you are the current owner of your company profile on Handshake, this guide will walk you through the steps to transfer ownership of your company profile to another user. Ownership can only be transferred to another user who is connected to your company's profile on Handshake.
Staff on Handshake
The following are frequently asked questions about how employers can invite their staff members to Handshake.
You can invite your fellow staff to create an account and join your company profile on Handshake with a unique invitation link.
In Handshake, users are granted permissions based on the role that they are assigned. The Roles tab lets you view and manage the permissions that are available to the users connected to your company profile.
Note: This is an action that can only be performed by the Owner or Admin.
On Handshake, you can add divisions to your company profile and associate them with any job posting or in-person career fair registration.
Job postings and applicant review process
The following are frequently asked questions about how employers can post a job on Handshake and contact applicants directly.
To post a job/internship at the University of Nevada, Reno for our students and alumni to view, you must have a confirmed user account that is connected to a company profile. If you are recruiting for multiple positions, we strongly recommend submitting each position as its own posting.
Once the job/internship is posted, our office will review and process the request. To expedite the review process, email the Nevada Career Studio at handshake@unr.edu to notify us your job post is online pending approval.
To attract more candidates to your job post, we recommend including the following details:
- Brief description of your company/organization
- Position title
- Job description
- List of duties/responsibilities
- Required qualifications
- Preferred qualifications (if any)
- Estimated hourly pay rate or salary range
- Expected start date
- Location: In-person, remote, or hybrid
- Benefits (E.g. health insurance, paid time off, retirement plans)

Yes you can! When you are creating your job/internship post on Handshake and get to the "Application process" section, you can select whether candidates submit their application on Handshake or an external applicant tracking system your organization uses.

- You can inform applicants they must apply on your external applicant tracking system to be considered for the position.
Yes you can. With Handshake's Status Messaging feature, employers can communicate with their applicants about their application status. Recruiters can enable and create custom messages that are automatically sent based on the applicant's status in Handshake.
Applicant Status Messaging Preferences
Note: Students/alumni are not notified on Handshake when their application is declined unless automatic status messaging is enabled.
Employers can proactively message students on Handshake when conditions for recruiting activities are met on the platform.
All employers can send messages to students individually or in bulk. However, only Premium partners have access to send messages via campaigns.
Every month, all Core (unpaid) users on your team have access to a shared pool of 25 messages. For Premium partners, limitations are further based on the partnership your company has with Handshake.
