In-person services

Drop-in coaching: No appointment needed! Stop by the Nevada Career Studio (Pennington Student Achievement Center, Room 208) during drop-in hours to get help from a Career Mentor. We can support you with:

  • Creating and reviewing resumes and cover letters
  • Finding on-campus jobs, internships, part-time roles, or full-time work
  • Building or updating your Handshake and LinkedIn profiles
  • Preparing for interviews
  • Writing and reviewing graduate school/program application statements
  • Developing and reviewing academic CVs
  • General career questions and Nevada Career Studio programs

Class assignments: Working on a class project like a resume? Come see us during drop-in hours. If you need proof of your visit, just ask a Career Mentor for a confirmation email.

Forage Job Simulations offers an online platform where students can explore career paths and gain practical experience through hundreds of free job simulations created by leading global employers.

IBIS World

BIS includes surveys of over 1,000 industries, covering more than 700 major and many specialized categories. Reports detail industry segments, market characteristics, conditions, key company profiles and outlooks. Access is provided by University Libraries.

My Next Move

My Next Move is an interactive tool for students to learn more about their career options. My Next Move has information from over 900 different careers, which includes responsibilities, skills, salary information and more.

Occupational Outlook Handbook

The Occupational Outlook Handbook from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics provides extensive information on hundreds of different job roles in the country.

O'Net Interest Profiler

The O*Net Interest Profiler can help you find out what your interests are and how they relate to the world of work. You can find out what you like to do. This platform can help you decide what kinds of careers you may want to explore.

What Can I Do With This Major

What Can I Do With This Major is an online tool that shows typical career areas and the types of employers that hire people with certain majors.

Coursera

The University of Nevada, Reno has partnered with Coursera to provide access to enhanced career development programs to students and alumni. Through the Coursera Career Academy, you can select from a variety of online professional training courses and microcredentials from companies such as Google, IBM, Meta and Salesforce.

The University is sponsoring licenses for Coursera courses and microcredentials for University of Nevada, Reno students. Alumni can also request access to Coursera.

Please Note: The University does not confer academic credit for the completion of Coursera content offerings. Coursera courses/microcredentials do not count towards degree completion.

Beyond Graduate School

Beyond Graduate School is a one-of-a-kind, online platform that helps master’s students make the most out of their investment and build their careers. From video lessons on career exploration to writing application materials, to interviewing and negotiating for that next career step, Beyond Grad School helps master’s students through each stage of their job search.

Beyond the Professoriate

Beyond the Professoriate’s Career Training Platform is an online professional development tool where doctoral students and postdocs can explore career options and learn job search strategies. Through two programs of study (Academic Careers and Professional Careers), students and postdocs are empowered to make informed decisions about their career path and learn successful job search strategies from other PhDs.

Nevada Money Mentors offer free 1-on-1 confidential financial coaching sessions. 1-hour coaching appointments are made available both virtually and in person, addressing how to negotiate a salary and how to set up a budget that works with your lifestyle.
