Tracy Fish, MFA

Assistant Professor, Area Head of Photography
Tracy Fish

Summary

Tracy Fish uses her interest in travel, culture and history as a catalyst in exploring themes of place and memory through a variety of mediums including photography, audio and experimental videography. She earned her B.A. in art studio from Coastal Carolina University and her MFA in experimental and documentary arts from Duke University. Both her upbringing in New York City and former residency in the south has informed her work and process. Fish has won various awards and exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her first collaborative book Chasing the Paper Canoe was published in 2013 by the Athenaeum Press.

As a teacher, Fish is dedicated to creating a space for community and conversation that exists both inside and out of the classroom. She encourages her students to be receptive and observational to the complexities of society, question what they are exposed to and use these results as a tool for discovering what is important to them. Fish believes that this simultaneous question and search for answers will help contribute to her students finding themselves as both makers and artists.
