Summary
Roberto Ortiz, a senior lecturer of Spanish, has taught elementary and intermediate Spanish, both face-to-face and online courses, to high school and college/university students since receiving his M.A. in foreign language and literature from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2005.
Recently, he has concentrated on teaching and advising Spanish heritage language learners. He currently serves as the Spanish heritage language mentor and Spanish for the professions track advisor, as well as the Spanish Club advisor. In addition, he developed the SPAN 111, SPAN 112, and SPAN 226 courses for the University of Nevada, Reno Collegiate Academy, which offers students the opportunity for a dual credit program while they are attending high school. He currently oversees the heritage language program and continues to work with program coordinators across the university system.
Before joining the University of Nevada, Reno as a lecturer of Spanish, he worked for a statewide non-profit agency as director of programs advocating for equal housing opportunity in the state of Nevada. Now, he serves on their advisory board. He believes in developing partnerships with community and university representatives. He is originally from México, but has lived over 30 years in northern Nevada.
