Andrew Gorzalski, Ph.D., has been a member of the University of Nevada, Reno since 2003. Andrew obtained his B.S. and M.S. in biochemistry, and his Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology all from the University. Gorzalski has previously worked as the Director of GenQuest DNA Technologies where he routinely performed capillary electrophoresis, PCR, and sequencing. In 2018, Gorzalski was hired at the Nevada State Public Health Lab, where he implemented Next-Generation Sequencing methods. Gorzalski is a certified High-Complexity Lab Director, otherwise known as a clinical diagnostic lab director. His hobbies include woodworking, tailoring, dogs, koi ponds, camping, and sign making.

Project overview

The student will be trained on how to perform DNA sequencing including pipetting, PCR, and data analysis. They will be trained on how to program a Hamilton with the end goal of automating the DNA sequencing, Sanger, at the Nevada Genomics Center.
