Summary
Kate has worked throughout her career in the written word. She was drawn to literature and writing as a vocation at Stanford, studying in both the U.S. and South Africa to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Kate launched her career with the U.S. Navy, where she was both a Public Affairs Officer and Information Systems Officer, leading divisions of up to 35 personnel for a newly-commissioned destroyer. After leaving the Navy, Kate transitioned to teaching at a college preparatory school in Mountain View, CA. There, she focused on preparing students for writing successfully in higher education and was awarded the Educator of the Year award. She spent her summer months teaching internationally, including in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Since 2017, Kate has had the privilege of working with University of Nevada, Reno researchers to make their proposals as competitive as possible, initially as a technical editor and writing coach. She has expanded her experience to developing proposal training to meet the distinct needs of members of the research community, advising faculty on the research landscape and community-engaged research, and assisting teams of researchers with coordinating large and complex proposals.
