Summary

Kate has worked throughout her career in the written word. She was drawn to English as a vocation at Stanford, studying in both the US and South Africa to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Kate launched her career with the US Navy, where she was both a Public Affairs Officer and Information Systems Officer, leading divisions of 35 sailors for a newly-commissioned destroyer. After leaving the Navy, Kate transitioned to teaching English for seven years at a college preparatory school in Mountain View, CA, focusing on preparing students for writing successfully in higher education. Kate was awarded the Educator of the Year award in 2010. Since 2011, Kate has focused on local public service with her favorite non-profit, Sierra Nevada Journeys, and other education-related volunteerism, as well as raising her two small children. She looks forward to assisting members of the University community in fulfilling their research goals.
