Summary
Luciana Correia Borges, a Fulbright scholar and doctoral candidate in public health at the University of Nevada, Reno, is entering her final year of study. Her research combines public health, law and political science, with a focus on how tobacco control policies are developed and regulated. She analyzes tobacco industry tactics, including the use of corporate social responsibility messaging and the promotion of "natural" and "organic" tobacco products. Her work has recently expanded to include cannabis regulation, particularly how it overlaps with tobacco use and public opinion. Throughout her Ph.D. program, Luciana has worked on two studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, both examining the changing landscape of substance use and public health oversight. Her efforts reflect a strong commitment to regulatory science and public policy aimed at supporting equitable and better-informed health behaviors.
