Join us for HonorsFIT: An Honors debut!

The Honors College is excited to welcome our newest students with our HonorsFIT event to be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 in person, on the University campus.

Move-in day for Honors College Living and Learning Community


Please note: All admitted Honors College students should complete check-in procedures on Thursday, August 17 or Friday, August 18 whether they are in a residence hall or not. Saturday should be free for HonorsFIT programming only.

If you will be living on campus, you can choose to move in either from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on either:

  • Thursday, August 17, or
  • Friday, August 18

What to expect

  1. Park in the West Stadium Parking Complex (no charge this day).
  2. Check-in at the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center in the heart of campus. At check-in, students will receive:
    • Room keys
    • Parking pass and map to your building
    • iPad
    • Apple Keyboard Folio
    • Apple Pencil
  3. Drive your vehicle to the designated unloading area and move in.

HonorsFit details and schedule


Date: Saturday, August 19, 2023

Time: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Location: Davidson Math and Science Center

Parking: Gateway Parking Complex, no charge.

All Honors students are required to attend HonorsFIT and should bring their iPad. Please bring water to our event, if desired, as August days in Reno are typically hot and sunny, and there will be time spent outside. Attendees are encouraged to wear sunscreen and/or hats, as well as comfortable walking shoes and warm-weather clothing.

  • 9-9:50 a.m.: Check-in DMSC 110
  • 10-10:30 a.m.: Welcome/Introductions
  • 10:45- a.m.-12 p.m.: Team builders
  • 12:10-1 p.m.: Lunch sponsored by Phi Kappa Phi
  • 1-1:45 p.m.: Phi Kappa Phi/Office for Undergraduate Fellowships
  • 2-2:45 p.m.: Student Actualization and Engagement
  • 3-3:45 p.m.: Meet your First Year Experience Instructor
  • 3:45 p.m.: Group photo before the end of session

Parents

  • 9-9:50 a.m.: Check-in DMSC 110
  • 10-10:30 a.m.: Welcome/Introductions
  • 10:45 a.m.-12 p.m.: Dean Means, Honors College Parent Club and Community Advisory Board Leadership, Jot Travis Building 100

  • 4 p.m.: Rejoin your student in DMSC 110

There will be a campus resource fair from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the DMSC Hallway. You are welcome to attend.

Around town

After the parent session, you are free to explore Reno and check out local attractions.

Best walking areas

About a mile south of campus, Midtown is walkable and rife with eateries, thrift stores, antique shops, and more.

You can also explore the downtown Truckee River area and Wingfield Park. This area hosts Artown every summer and a whitewater rafting festival. Rancho SanRafeal Park and Idlewild Park are also nearby and worth visiting.
