People: Honors College Student Council Executive Board

Isabelle Shaw, President

Isabelle Shaw Senior, Mechanical Engineering (Major); Robotics and Math (Minors)

Hello! My name is Isabelle, but most know me by Izzy! I have the privilege of being this year’s Honors College Student Council President. As president, I am in charge of overseeing all the Honors College Student Council initiatives and events. I’m super excited to see what this year holds!

Some other areas on campus I am involved in include the College of Engineering as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, Alpha Phi Omega Community Service Fraternity, Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity, and the UNR Crochet Club!

Some hobbies I enjoy when I’m not doing schoolwork are crocheting and crafting, ice skating, watching movies and TV shows, and thrifting!

Austin Shin, Vice President

Austin Shim Senior, Chemistry (Pre-Medical Emphasis)

My name is Austin Shim, and I am very excited to be returning to the HCSC board again this year. I have found that supporting our Honors students brings me great joy and satisfaction, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to do so again. I believe the Honors College motto, “Life’s a journey. Honors makes it meaningful,” closely aligns with my personal perspective. Experiences such as my role with HCSC allow me to make my college journey more meaningful and give back to a community I am continually happy to be a part of.

I am a fourth-year Chemistry student with the eventual goal of attending medical school. Outside of the Honors College, you can find me on campus with the Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, at the KC, or at the gym.

Zaara Kamal, Treasurer

Zaara Kamal Sophomore, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (Major); Psychology and Public Health (Minors), Pre-Med Track

Hi everyone! I’m the Treasurer for the Honors College Student Council. I have an integral role in raising and managing funds for Honors students. My goal is to expand our resources and opportunities through fundraising events. I’m excited for what’s to come and to carry on the Honors College’s legacy.

On campus, I am involved in a variety of activities, including Care Club, MAPS, and research opportunities. While things may get hectic, I truly love UNR and the adventures I embark on. Outside of school, I enjoy binge-watching TV shows and spending time with my friends. If you ever see me around, feel free to say hi!

Ana Amaya, Director of Events

Ana Amaya Junior, Theatre Design and Technology (Major); Sculpture (Minor)

I am a junior majoring in theatre design and technology with a minor in Sculpture. I’m very passionate about my craft and love all types of artistic media. In my free time, I love being involved in the community, whether I’m volunteering, attending church for fellowship, or exploring new spots around town. My top hobbies are fashion, reading, cooking, and skiing.

As Director of Events, feel free to say hi if you see me around campus or at any of our events! I look forward to meeting all the new students and making new friends.
