Summary
Dr. Rose Sciaroni serves as teaching assistant professor of honors in the University of Nevada, Reno’s Honors College. She teaches classes, serves on the curriculum committee, and mentors students through creative projects and research. She is also director of precollege programming. Previously, Dr. Sciaroni was a faculty member of the music department at the University where she taught courses in music education, music appreciation, and introduction to the arts, and supervised student teaching interns.
In addition to her collegiate teaching experience, Dr. Sciaroni has taught in multiple precollege programs. These have included two programs for underserved students, the Fairview Violin Project in Bloomington, Indiana, and the Reno Philharmonic Association Kids (RPAK) program in Reno, Nevada. She also served as an instructor with the Indiana University String Academy, a high-level program for precollege string players. As a professional violinist, she continues to perform in the sections of the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and the Reno Chamber Orchestra, and she has played in other orchestras around the country including in California, Texas, Illinois and Indiana. She also loves playing chamber music, especially by living and local composers.
Dr. Sciaroni earned her Doctor of Music Education degree from Indiana University where she specialized in violin pedagogy and fell in love with the educational philosophy. She also holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Nevada, Reno and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Oregon. She has presented both nationally and internationally and has published articles in major music education journals such as the Bulletin for the Council of Research in Music Education and the Philosophy of Music Education Review. Her research interests include creativity, educational philosophy, and pedagogy. Dr. Sciaroni lives in Reno with her spouse, son and dog and she loves reading, cooking, hiking and skiing.
