Meet the Honors College Student Council Executive Board

Esther Hong, President

Senior, biology major and public health minor

I serve as the President of the Honors College Student Council. I aim to increase the sense of community and belonging within the Honors College. As a representative of the Honors students, I will listen to the voices of my fellow peers and work to make a difference as a liaison between students and Honors faculties. I will also introduce various opportunities for students to help the community. I have won three President's Volunteer Service Awards in the past. While being a full-time student, I am a Senior Resident Assistant in Peavine Hall, founder, and president of the Pokemon Go Pack Club, and an active member of the Nevada Glee Club. Contact Esther at esther_hong@nevada.unr.edu.

Yajahira Dircio, Vice President

Junior, microbiology and immunology major, theater and philosophy minor

I serve as the Vice President of the Honors College Student Council. In the past, I served as the Director of Public Relations. I aim to create connections between the University of Nevada, Reno Honors College with other Honors Colleges in the region as well as increase candidacy/voter turnout for council elections. Outside of the council, I am an undergraduate researcher in the AuCoin/Kozel lab, a writing tutor for the Philosophy Department, a Nevada Student Ambassador, and an active member of the Microbiology Club. Contact Yajahira at ydircio@nevada.unr.edu.

Nandini Naidu, Secretary

Junior, biology major, public health minor

I serve as the Secretary of the Honors College Student Council. I plan to ensure effective communication throughout the Student Council and distribute information in a timely manner. I will play a key role in implementing the Honors pillars of resilience, ingenuity, stewardship, and equity to help support fellow Honors students and continue to create a positive impact on the Honors community. I am an undergraduate researcher in the Sarmazdeh Lab working on protein hybrids and was recently awarded an NIH MARC Nevada award. Nikhil Boaz (Bobby), Treasurer

Junior, biochemistry and molecular biology major, psychology minor

I serve as the Treasurer of the Honors College Student Council, which I also served for the previous term. I look for opportunities to raise money for the Council to ultimately allow the Student Council to be able to support Honors students through events, funds, and grants. I envision the Honors College as a tight-knit community of outstanding students and exceptional faculty working toward a successful future for both the students and the Honors College as a whole. Outside of the council and academics, I am an undergraduate researcher in the Choi lab of the biochemistry department, a volunteer at the Renown Regional Medical Center, and a pianist for the Living Stones Church in midtown. Contact Nikhil at nboaz@nevada.unr.edu.

Celeste Robles, Director of Events

Junior, biotechnology and microbiology and immunology major, public health minor

I serve as the Director of Events of the Honors College Student Council. I hope to host events for Honors students to attend and make connections with one another, and create spaces where students enjoy their time to collaborate with other organizations to be able to supply resources to Honors Students. Celeste is an undergraduate researcher in the Liebman Lab, CABNR Student Ambassador, DWPI Student Ambassador, 2nd-year NevadaFIT Mentor, and Mobile Clinics Officer for MEDLIFE Club. Jana Navarro, Director of Public Relations

Sophomore, biomedical engineering major

I serve as the Director of Public Relations for the Honors College Student Council. I promote events through social media and communicate with the Honors College staff and graduate assistants. I design flyers to be posted on the Honors College Student Council instagram. I aim to increase attendance at events and to present the Honors College as a fun and welcoming environment. Jack AuCoin, Director of Public Engagement

Junior, political science major, history and spanish minor

I serve as the Director of Public Engagement of the Honors College Student Council. I manage volunteering and community service opportunities for the Honors students. My goal is to increase the number of these opportunities not only with the University of Nevada, Reno but also with the City of Reno and the surrounding area.
