PiM Track

PiM + Accelerated Master's Program Track

What you’ll earn

  • Master’s Degree
  • Honors Baccalaureate
  • PiM Certificate

What you’ll do

  • Begin your first year in PiM 
  • Gain hands-on experience through shadowing 
  • Work with advisors and mentors 
  • Explore a range of health care careers 
  • Continue with a fifth year of graduate education 

Why choose this path

For students who choose not to pursue, or do not receive, an assured seat at UNR Med and are exploring other pathways into medicine.

PiM + Assured Seat Track

What you’ll earn

  • Opportunity to earn an assured seat at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine*
  • Master’s Degree
  • Honors Baccalaureate
  • PiM Certificate

What you’ll do

  • Apply before your junior year
  • Complete the UNR Med prerequisites
  • Gain clinical and academic experience
  • Prepare for a transition to UNR Med

PiM Honors Certificate Program road map

Year 1: Beginning your PiM journey

  • Join the Honors College and begin foundational coursework.
  • Explore a wide range of health care careers
  • Receive a formal invitation to join PiM.
  • Chat with pre-professional advisors

Year 2: Exploring PiM tracks

  • Continue your coursework and AAMC competency electives.
  • Meet with advisors to explore your options within PiM, including the PiM + Accelerated Master’s and PiM + Assured Seat. 
  • PiM + Assured Seat: Eligible students may receive an invitation to apply for the PiM + Assured Seat and complete a competitive application and interview process.

Year 3: Choose your PiM track

  • Advance your learning and personal/professional readiness through additional AAMC competency-focused electives. Consider a summer internship opportunity and engage in research experiences. 
  • PiM + Assured Seat: Complete all PiM requirements while fulfilling UNR Med prerequisites. Consider a clinically-focused summer experience. 

Year 4: Completing your PiM track

  • Complete graduation requirements. Graduate with an Honors Baccalaureate and a PiM certificate. 
  • PiM + Assured Seat: Finish coursework and complete additional PiM + Assured Seat classes. Fulfill all the UNR Med prerequisites and graduate with an Honors Baccalaureate and a PiM Certificate. 

Year 5: Completing your Accelerated Master's or Assured Seat track

  • PiM + Accelerated Master’s: Complete an accelerated master’s program to increase your competitiveness when applying in your health care field of interest. 
  • PiM + Assured Seat: Complete an accelerated master’s program. Prepare for your first year of medical school at UNR Med.
