Employee recognition is not just the polite thing to do for people. Employee recognition is a message that emphasizes and rewards excellence at the University of Nevada, Reno. When recognizing classified staff effectively, you reinforce the actions and behaviors most desired throughout campus.
As part of the Staff Employees Council (SEC), the Classified Employees Recognition Committee reviews nominations for outstanding classified employees on a monthly basis and recognizes up to two classified employees each month.
Holly Marizu, Research, VP: "If everyone had a "Holly" in their office, it would make a better Nevada." Stephanie Woolf, nominator.
Phyllis Snedeker, Development & Alumni Relations: "Many times, I had to ask Phyllis to help me with council matters that were outside of what her position was supposed to do and she never once turned me down. In fact many times I found out that Phyllis had helped with some detail that had slipped my mind only to find out that it was taken care of without me knowing." Erik Williams, nominator.
What do you enjoy most about working in VPR and/or the University?
I have a great support system, which makes my job much easier and enjoyable. My department and the University of Nevada Reno really makes it easy to come to work every day. Even with the major budget reductions and restructuring going on over the past years, all of the faculty and staff pulled together to keep UNR an amazing institution. Every one of us, the students, faculty and staff makes the university a great place to work. I come to work early every morning with a big smile on my face ready to do my part.
What makes you laugh?
My husband. He always knows how to do something that makes me smile or laugh just by being his sweet, innocent self.
What do you enjoy most about working in Development and Alumni Relations and/or the University?
I enjoy the work. That may sound silly, but our mission is to help in all aspects of fundraising for scholarships. When you see how the students need that assistance, it makes you feel good that our area of development makes a difference in a student's ability to get the college education.
If you were in a Rock N' Roll band, what would your job be?
Since I can't carry a tune, but I love to sing, I would definitely want to be the lead singer!
Each year the Staff Employees' Council recognizes one classified staff employee who makes exceptional contributions to UNR. All members of the campus community are encouraged to nominate staff colleagues who deserve this special acknowledgment.
