Molecular Ecology and Conservation Biology

Our department continues with its rigorous approach to studying conservation biology and has recently merged many of our approaches to studying conservation with basic molecular ecology.

Molecular tools have become important for all facets of the biological sciences, and our faculty are using the newest approaches to address questions in ecology, evolution and conservation biology. In particular, we are studying the genes and genomes of a diversity of organisms to ask questions about population structure, speciation, and adaptation to diverse, often human altered, environments.

We also offer instruction in molecular ecology, emphasizing recent developments and bioinformatic tools.
