The certificate in Addiction Treatment and Prevention Services is designed for graduate-level students or post-master’s degree professionals who are interested in enhancing their body of knowledge specific to addiction services. Students interested in the advanced certificate program must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college.

This certificate is offered through the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT).

Available to all students, this minor is particularly designed for those who are majoring in a health or social service field and are interested in the addiction treatment field as a supplement to their major. The minor in addiction treatment is offered through the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT).

*The Undergraduate Certificate has the same program requirements for students who are not seeking a University of Nevada, Reno degree.

The certificate in Donor Management and Transplantation Science (DMTS) aims to train healthcare professionals in leadership, management and coordination of the activities related to the organ donation and transplantation process. This multifaceted process requires a good understanding of healthcare services, appropriate communication, an ethical approach and clinical care.

The DMTS Certificate Program aims to prepare the students to become “Organ Procurement and Transplant Coordinators (OPTC)” who facilitate organ donation from beginning to end. The OPTCs act as a liaison between the donor’s family, the organ procurement organization and ultimately the transplantation team.

The students who complete the certificate program will become eligible for a certification process driven by the relevant professional organizations that are valid nationally.

Program Info: M.D./MPH admission process and degree information | Doctor of Medicine/Master of Public Health Program catalog

The M.D./MPH degree combination allows medical students to pursue a Master of Public Health in one of three areas: Epidemiology, Social and Behavioral Health or Health Administration and Policy. The MPH in Epidemiology is designed for students seeking to acquire skills in the fundamental methods of disease investigation and prevention in large populations. The Health Administration and Policy specialization prepares students for careers in public health leadership roles, with a focus on health care systems management, finance and the policy and legislative implications for public health problems and population health. The Social and Behavioral Health specialization is designed for students interested in health promotion, education and the prevention and reduction of health disparities throughout the life course. This is not a formally integrated M.D. and MPH dual-degree program, as students must apply to and be admitted into each program independently and students are typically enrolled in only one program at a time.

The MPH in Epidemiology program offers small class sizes and opportunities to work with faculty conducting epidemiologic research to address complex public health problems.

The M.S. in Health Analytics and Biostatistics program trains students in biostatistics who intend to plan and conduct quantitative analysis in public health, biomedicine and biology. An understanding of kinesiology can prepare you for work in athletic fields, such as training and coaching, education or the medical field. Students pursuing this degree will be educated and prepared as leaders with rigorous training in emerging research areas such as sports medicine, biomechanics, exercise physiology and physical activity. The M.S. in Kinesiology is a popular degree as either a terminal degree or together with a doctoral degree in biology, neuroscience, exercise physiology or physical education.

The Outdoor Adventure and Leadership (ODAL) Minor in the Kinesiology Department in the School of Public Health offers students curriculum in outdoor leadership, recreation and stewardship that positions graduates for careers in the growing outdoor education and recreation economy. Courses include a range of field experiences and leadership opportunities in the Sierra Nevada, Great Basin and Lake Tahoe Region.

The Undergraduate Peer Support Specialist (PSS) Certificate provides students with “lived experience” an opportunity to explore and practice mentoring and coaching skills important to advocating for and supporting peers in addiction and mental health recovery. Peer support includes relationship building in order to provide support, advocacy, wellness and community engagement services to individuals.

Nurses provide a range of health care services in a variety of settings, such as public health agencies, hospitals and clinics, as well as working as researchers and health care policy advocates. If you are interested in pursuing a nursing degree, public health is the recommended primary and parallel degree for students. You can apply the credits you take to fulfill pre-nursing requirements to the public health degree with no credits wasted. This allows students who are not admitted into the nursing major to graduate with a public health degree in four years.

The online nine-credit Tele-behavioral Health Services Certificate is offered through the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT). The certificate will provide instruction on the effective use of technology to deliver substance use disorder treatment and recovery services or other behavioral health services. The curriculum uses current technologies and instructional/consultation activities to provide virtual interactive training; real-time skill-based learning and practice; group and self-study activities, reading assignments and discussions on topics essential to increasing knowledge and building skills; and changing practice through the adoption of evidence-based and promising practices. The certificate applies to individuals in the behavioral health workforce, including and not limited to counselors, clinical supervisors, administrators, recovery specialists, justice professionals and students and is available to persons who:

1. Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
2. Would like to add the use of technology to deliver remote services to their body of knowledge.
3. Uses or plans to incorporate videoconferencing into clinical and/or recovery support services.
4. Supports the idea of using technology to provide clinical and recovery support services.
