Traditionally, management includes the following activities: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. More specifically, management is responsible for the primary activities of the firm, and also responsible for the support activities of infrastructure, human resource management, technology development and procurement. Management majors are prepared for careers in either general management, the specialization of human resource management or entrepreneurship based on concentration choice.

The Department of Management at the University of Nevada, Reno offers two tracks of emphasis: human resources and general management. Each of these emphases require the completion of different courses.
This minor is designed to train students to be effective managers of human capital through the use of training, internal procedures, compensation, staffing, and more. The number of students pursuing a minor in business administration at the University of Nevada, Reno has been climbing rapidly in recent years, and for good reason. The M.B.A. program is designed for individuals who have completed a baccalaureate degree in any field and who have at least two years of professional experience in a business, government, or non-profit organization. The MBA program generally can be completed by most students in three years or less of evening study.

The Executive Master of Business Administration at The University of Nevada, Reno is one of the top online business programs in the country. The online, 12-course curriculum is offered as a two-year cohort program beginning each year in the Fall. This allows students in each cohort to begin the program at the same point, move through the curriculum together, and build supportive working relationships in a stimulating online environment. Courses in the EMBA program are sequenced to assure continuity in learning.
The dynamic and growing College of Business offers a Ph.D. in business administration (management), with cutting-edge management training in theoretical foundations and quantitative methods in basic and applied research.
