What will I learn in a history degree program?

The Bachelor of Arts degree in gender, race, and identity provides a place for students looking for an academic home for interests in diversity, gender and sexuality, religious identity, conflict, oppression, social justice, or the intersections of race, class, and gender. Students in the major can apply knowledge in an active and activist application in the Department of Gender, Race, and Identity.

The gender, race, and identity degree focuses on a range of human experiences and analyzes difference and oppression in its various forms on individuals and societies. The focus of the major is on diversity, equity and social justice to prepare students for careers in public advocacy, politics, sustainability, management and more.

    The Department of History within the College of Liberal Arts offers history majors an emphasis in African history. Students will learn to think contextually, read African historical documents and become better researchers and writers.

  • Asian history

  • Eastern European history

  • Latin American history

    The Department of History within the College of Liberal Arts offers history majors an emphasis in Latin American history. Students will learn to think contextually, read Latin American historical documents and become better researchers and writers.

  • United States history

    The Department of History within the College of Liberal Arts offers history majors an emphasis in United States history. Students will learn to think contextually, read United States historical documents and become better researchers and writers.

  • Minor

    The Department of History at the University of Nevada, Reno also offers a minor in history, as well as a minor in African studies and Middle Eastern studies. Students will learn to think contextually, read historical documents and become better researchers and writers.
