The University of Nevada, Reno is the land grant institution of Nevada. Serving over 18,000 students, this doctoral granting research institution is nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and less than 50 miles from beautiful Lake Tahoe. The local community has been enhanced by the increasingly diverse student population. In the Biggest Little City, there is no shortage of special events, unique new restaurants and festivals for those who want to live an adventure. From hiking Mt Rose, to paddle boarding in Lake Tahoe, to snowboarding at Squaw Valley, the region is filled with opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors throughout all four seasons.

Opened in November 2007, the Joe Crowley Student Union serves as the heart of the campus. Known affectionately as "The Joe" to the university community, the facility is ideal for creative programming and building a strong campus community. The Joe Crowley Student Union measures over 167,000 square feet and meets the standards of a Silver LEED certified building. The Union has numerous meeting spaces, a grand ballroom, and a 220-seat digital surround sound high definition movie theater. Retail services include 9 food vendors highlighted by a sit down non-alcohol sports grille, a bank branch, a two-story bookstore owned by the students, and other services. The Center for Student Engagement, the Graduate Student Association and the Center for Student and Cultural Diversity are also located in the facility. The Student Union staff collaborates with others to build community on campus. The Union strives to provide maximum opportunity for self-realization and individual growth by providing cultural, social, recreational and intellectual experiences. The Associate Director is an integral member of a diverse, passionate team of Student Union professionals and students. The incumbent is responsible for oversight of multiple areas of the Student Union. The person directly supervises full-time administrative faculty, classified staff, and student employees. Fiscal responsibilities include the development and management of budgets that exceed one million dollars. The individual is one of two Associate Directors who will split oversight responsibilities for numerous areas including:

• Assessment
• Audio Visual Service
• Building Operations
• Catering Services
• Custodians
• Event Management
• Information Technology
• Marketing
• Programming
• Renovations
• Retail Management
• Scheduling Services
• Student Employee Program

In order to be successful in this position, significant experience in at least eight of the areas listed above is important. The specific division of duties and reorganization of staff will be determined by the two Associate Directors and Director. The position requires a bachelor's degree; a master's degree is preferred.
