Opened in November 2007, the Joe Crowley Student Union serves as the heart of the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Known affectionately as "the Joe" to the students and staff, the facility is ideal for creative programming and building a strong campus community. The Joe Crowley Student Union measures over 167,000 square feet and meets the standards of a Silver LEED certified building. The Union has numerous meeting spaces, a grand ballroom, and a 220-seat digital surround sound high definition movie theater. Retail services consist of 9 food vendors including a sit-down, non-alcoholic sports grille, a bank branch, a two-story bookstore owned by the students, and other services. The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN), the Center for Student Engagement, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Center for Student Cultural Diversity are also located in the facility. The Union strives to provide maximum opportunities for self-realization and individual growth by providing cultural, social, recreational, and intellectual experiences.
The Coordinator, CSU Building Services, is responsible for overall management of maintenance support services for the Joe Crowley Student Union. This position manages in-house and contract Custodial Services for the Student Union and all associated outdoor areas. The position will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for proactive maintenance practices, while providing and overseeing the administration and services of the building to maintain the CSU as a community center and enabling the building for the University's best use. This position plays a key role in ensuring effective maintenance practices to reach the Student Union's goals. The Coordinator of CSU Building Services develops and implements innovative practices and methods to achieve the department objective of an acceptable ratio of planned maintenance. The incumbent works closely with commercial retail vendors housed in the Student Union, and provides oversight and supervision to all assigned custodial staff and student employees to ensure compliance with University and CSU policies and procedures. The incumbent is also accountable for coordinating with Student Union administrators to carry out strategic planning. Any candidate must be available to work a flexible work schedule for emergency and crisis situations during night and weekend hours. The position reports to the Associate Director.
