Yes, our consultations are free as long as you are a student at the University of Nevada, Reno. Every student at the University pays an academic support fee which supports our operations, alongside other supplemental services on campus (Math Center, Tutoring Center, etc).
We are located in the Pennington Student Achievement Center, Suite 350. Please feel free to stop by and visit our space.
Please feel free to call us at (775) 784-6030 if you need additional information.
The University Writing & Speaking Center conducts over 2,000 sessions a semester. While we do our best to see every student who drops-in, appointments are recommended. We see our biggest demand during midterms and finals, so plan accordingly.
UWSC appointments are 45 minutes in length. Undergraduate students may receive up to one 45-minute appointment each day the Writing & Speaking Center is open. This policy applies to all schedules.
Graduate students may use a total of 3.75 hours of support a week, which can be used in 45-minute to 1.5 hours (two 45-minute appointments) blocks of time.
Many writing & speaking projects may require and/or benefit from scheduling multiple sessions with a consultant.
You can book an appointment using our "Make an Appointment" link. You will then see the login page for our online scheduler. Returning users can login with their email address and password. First-time users will need to register with our system. Click on the "First Visit?" link on the login page and fill out the registration form.
You can also give us a call at (775) 784-6030, and we can schedule an appointment over the phone for you.

The University Writing & Speaking Center is a student consultative service that focuses exclusively on student writing and speaking/presentations. We help students with any project they are working on, including non-academic papers and resumes. Students may visit us at any point in the writing or speech/presentation process and talk with a consultant about their work.
We are an academic support center that focuses on student writing. Our mission at the Writing Center is to build a community of writers. That being said, we are not a drop off editing service. All students who visit the University Writing Center are expected to participate in the consultation. If you have additional questions regarding these policies, please contact us at (775) 784-6030.
