Summary
Landon Miller is Lecturer II of Spanish in the Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of Nevada, Reno. He holds an M.A. in Spanish and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno.
His teaching and professional interests include Spanish-language media and journalism, bilingual communication, Spanish for the professions, community engagement and experiential learning. Drawing on a professional background in journalism, broadcasting, public communication and local government, he is particularly interested in helping students apply Spanish beyond the classroom and develop the linguistic and cultural skills needed to communicate effectively with diverse communities.
Before joining the department full-time, Miller worked as an Emmy Award-winning television journalist and news anchor in Northern Nevada and later in public-sector communications and community engagement for the City of Reno. He has also worked in radio broadcasting and has taught Spanish and Journalism courses at the University of Nevada, Reno at multiple levels.
His teaching emphasizes practical communication, cultural competency and connections between language study and students’ academic, professional, and community interests. He is especially interested in interdisciplinary opportunities connecting Spanish with journalism, media, strategic communication and public service.
