A newly developed online general business degree program in the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Reno is drawing strong interest as it prepares to launch in the fall semester of 2025.
As many as 50 students may enroll in the first cohort of the general business program, developed by the College of Business to meet the needs of students who want a strong foundation in business even though their ability to attend on-campus courses is limited by work or other obligations.
All of the coursework needed to complete the major is available online.
Jeremy Tiedt, assistant dean for undergraduate student success, said vibrant coursework for the online general business degree was created with the assistance of the expertise of Nevada Online, the University’s team of digital-education specialists.
“The classes feature many of today’s best video tools to provide content that’s both strong and engaging,” Tiedt said. “Faculty members have been enthused at the opportunity to refresh their coursework in ways to meet the needs and desires of today’s business students.”
The online general business major will provide students with basic business skills that include analytical thinking, effective communication, use of business technology, recognition and resolution of ethical issues and the ability to succeed in a global business environment.
Students in the program, Tiedt said, will include newly enrolled business majors, students who are returning to the University after their studies were interrupted and students who seek to remain engaged with the College of Business even though they can’t be on campus for a semester or two. Potential students who want more information can contact Tiedt at jtiedt@unr.edu or (775) 782-9141.
Because courses to meet the requirements of the online general business major will be available throughout the year, Tiedt said students will be able to progress quickly toward completion of the degree.
Greg Mosier, dean of the College of Business, said the online general business degree reflects the commitment of the University to provide the best possible availability of its educational initiatives.
“The University is committed to strengthening the useful knowledge that provides a strong foundation for successful lives,” Mosier said. “This online general business major makes the excellence of our College of Business education available to the many people who aren’t able to attend courses on campus.”
