Jazz ensembles

The jazz ensemble program features two big bands and multiple small ensembles, each directed or coached by our jazz faculty. The ensembles cover a range of styles, including bebop, Latin-jazz, free jazz, funk, hip-hop and many others. Creativity and improvisation are at the center of activities and opportunities for students to compose and arrange are frequent and encouraged. A weekly forum provides an opportunity for each small ensemble to perform and receive valuable feedback from peers and faculty. All small ensembles participate in a final concert at the end of each semester, and the big bands give multiple performances on and off campus each semester.
