Summary

Mohsen Rabbani is a Ph.D. student at the Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, University of Nevada, Reno. He works on the sustainability assessment of rare earth production from Bastnasite. This research at UNR will be sponsored by the MP Materials Company, which owns the Mountain Pass mine in California as the only active REEs mine in the western hemisphere, and the Department of Energy. Also, he works on the mitigation of abandoned mine lands via phytoremediation and extraction of REEs from coal-related materials.
He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mining Engineering and Mineral Processing from the University of Kashan and Isfahan University of Technology, respectively.

Furthermore, he participated in various mining projects in Afghanistan, such as Shaida Copper Mine Project, the first large-scale mining operation in Afghanistan's history.
