Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Welcome to the Biology Undergraduate Research Opportunity (BURO). This program is designed to help students gain valuable research experience while completing their undergraduate degrees here at the University of Nevada, Reno. Any student interested in getting hands-on experience in a biology lab is encouraged to apply.
Faculty in the Biology Department post project descriptions at the beginning of each semester and students can submit applications for up to three of these projects. Once applications are submitted, faculty chose their undergraduate assistants and the research opportunities begin!
New research opportunities are added at the beginning of each semester. Application details can be found here.
What is an undergraduate research opportunity?
Undergraduate research opportunities are fundamental for those interested in pursuing a career in the sciences, and will stand out on graduate school applications and job interviews alike. The undergraduate research experience takes on many forms. Whether you are washing dishes, conducting experiments, or running analyses, volunteering in an academic biology lab is an invaluable experience. Students who form relationships with graduate students and faculty early on in their academic career will have greater opportunities to learn advanced research skills, explore new fields and deepen the knowledge gained in the classroom.
