User agreement

As a condition of using the University Testing Center, test takers must agree to abide by the following policies, as well as any instructions from a Testing Center staff member.

Prohibited items

  • Personal items, including backpacks, briefcases, purses, bags, wallets, large jewelry items, and keys
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Cell phones and other electronic or photographic devices, including watches, activity trackers and other wearable technology
  • Hats, hoods and other head coverings, unless worn for a religious purpose
  • Outerwear, including heavy coats and jackets, parkas, rain coats, gloves, scarves and sunglasses
  • Food and drink, including bottled water, candy and gum
  • Any materials or aids not approved by your instructor or exam sponsor

Prohibited conduct

  • Attempting to take an exam for someone else, or having someone take an exam for you
  • Obtaining unauthorized or improper access to an exam, a part of an exam or information about an exam
  • Possessing or using a cell phone or other prohibited item in the testing room
  • Using any unauthorized materials or aids in connection with an exam, such as mechanical pencils, pens, pagers, beepers, calculators (except on exams where a calculator is permitted), watch calculators, books, pamphlets, notes, rulers, highlighter pens, stereos or radios with headphones, watch alarms, stopwatches, dictionaries, translators, compasses, protractors and any other material not explicitly approved for your exam
  • Creating a disturbance in the testing room or distracting other test takers
  • Bringing a weapon or firearm into the Testing Center
  • Attempting to give or receive assistance, or otherwise communicate, in any form, with another person during an exam session or during a break
  • Removing or attempting to remove exam content from the Testing Center
  • Tampering with or attempting to access unauthorized websites or applications on the testing computer
  • Leaving the testing room without permission or leaving the Testing Center during a break
  • Taking lengthy or excessive unscheduled breaks during an exam session
  • Failing to follow any of the directions or instructions of a staff member

Academic integrity

While using the University Testing Center, you are subject to our Academic Standards policy (UAM 6,502) as well as that of your own institution, if applicable. Proctors monitor testing room activity at all times, and suspected misconduct will be reported to your instructor/institution for further action. The Testing Center staff is authorized to dismiss you from your exam for suspected misconduct; this may result in forfeiture of your exam fee, the invalidation of your exam scores, and/or being refused service at the Testing Center in the future.
