The Northern Nevada STEM Fair returns

Join us March 6, 2027 as the University of Nevada, Reno embarks on reimagining a regional STEM fair for students in grades 1-12 to deliver hands-on exploration, research showcases, and a juried student competition.

Eligibility

All students in grades 1-12 can participate. Projects can be submitted individually, without sponsorship or affiliation with a school or teacher. Team projects are allowed with up to three students per group.

Prizes are distributed to winners within each division:

  • Elementary Division: Grades 1-5
  • Junior High Division: Grades 6-8
  • High School Division: Grades 9-12

Get involved

To help us host a successful fair, please consider ways to get involved including:

  • Encouraging students to participate
  • Communicating with students and parents about the fair
  • Answering student questions about their projects
  • Sharing reminders about important due dates
  • Visiting the fair to view your students’ final projects
  • Set up and tear down of the fair
  • Becoming a volunteer or serving as a judge

Inspired by students

The long-standing tradition of an annual science fair in Northern Nevada was lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, thanks to the passion of two local high school students, the University is bringing back the Science Fair—stronger than ever. This event is an opportunity for students to collaborate, connect, and engage in STEM outside of the classroom. Join us to celebrate the hard work and passion of the next generation of scientists.
