Summary

Samantha Hoeper's research focuses on the influence of the built and social environment on physical activity behaviors, personal agency and sense of place. Using mixed methods, participant mapping and geographic information systems, her dissertation research focuses on understanding how social and built environments, and changes to these environments, influence residents' perceptions and decisions related to physical activity and sense of place. In addition, her dissertation explores the reciprocal relationship between physical activity behaviors and sense of place. Hoeper has an interest in participatory methods and has used photovoice to explore how the university environment influences a sense of belonging among Latino and Latina students. Other research interests and program evaluation experience include nutrition policy, aging and gerontology, person- and relationship-centered dementia care and caregiving.
