Summary
Margarita G. Otero Alvarez , who goes by Maggie, is a Vital Strategies Healthy Food Policy fellow with a passion for nutrition policymaking and the commercial determinants of health. Her interest in the field began early in her career, when she saw how health advocacy helped drive the adoption of best-practice food policies in Mexico.
Her current research examines how corporate interests influence the policy environment in Mexico and affect food and nutrition policy outcomes. She hopes to use this research to help protect future public health policymaking in Mexico and beyond from undue commercial influence.
