Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP)
The University of Nevada, Reno is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). The University of Nevada, Reno is working toward accreditation of its educator preparation programs under the AAQEP standards with an anticipated Quality Assurance Review in the Fall of 2023.
Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
The Counseling programs have been given the counseling profession's highest seal of approval. The Counseling Department has met the rigorous national standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), which ensures that our graduates receive a superior education.
The programs that have been accredited include Counselor Education and Supervision, Community Counseling, School Counseling, and Student Development Counseling in Higher Education.
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
The National Association for the Education of Young Children represents the mark of quality in early childhood education. To achieve NAEYC Accreditation, early childhood education programs volunteer to be measured against the most robust and rigorous national standards on education, health and safety. NAEYC accredited programs invest in early childhood education because they believe in the benefits to children and families.
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is a mark of distinction, and provides recognition that the College of Education has met national professional standards for the preparation of teachers and other educators. NCATE currently accredits 632 colleges of education with the University of Nevada, Reno's College of Education being one of those institutions. There are about 1300 institutions across the U.S. that prepares teachers. In NCATE's performance-based accreditation system, institutions must provide verification of proficient teacher candidate performance. Studies indicate that student achievement increases when teachers are fully prepared as well as licensed.
Graduates from an NCATE accredited teacher preparation program are in high demand because they are well-prepared for initial licensing. NCATE accredited schools produce over two-thirds of the nation's new teacher graduates. The U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs recognize NCATE as an accrediting body for school, colleges, and departments of education.
National Council on Family Relations (NCFR)
The Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) undergraduate degree program at the University of Nevada, Reno has been reviewed by the National Council on Family Relations. It has been recognized as an NCFR CFLE-approved program offering coursework covering the content required for the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) designation. Graduates of NCFR CFLE-approved programs qualify to apply for the CFLE designation via an Abbreviated Application process.
The Association for Behavior Analysis International Verified Course Sequence (VCS)
The Association for Behavior Analysis International has verified the following courses toward the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (Option 1) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst® examination. Applicants will need to meet additional requirements before they can be deemed eligible to take the examination.
