What will I learn in a dance degree program?

Students pursuing a major in dance will combine the cognitive and kinetic skills necessary to enter the field as dance practitioners, makers, educators, administrators and/or scholars.

In order to balance the artistic, analytical and kinesthetic skills, dance majors are doing, making and studying dance throughout their undergraduate careers with an emphasis on continued reflection and growth as both practitioners and scholars.

Why study dance at the University of Nevada, Reno?

The Bachelor of Arts in dance at the University of Nevada, Reno offers study in a range of techniques including ballet, jazz, modern, musical theatre styles and tap. Dance majors take courses in choreography, dance history and theory, teaching methods, dance improvisation, criticisms and aesthetics, theatre production and performance. Recent elective course topics include screendance, hip hop technique, Horror, Dance, Monstrosity, and The Body, dance pedagogy and Fosse dance.

The dance program regularly brings in a variety of guest artists providing the opportunity for students to learn and practice with nationally-renowned performing artists. Dance facilities include three dance studios and a black box dance theatre space for rehearsal and performance. We prepare students with the skills and experiences necessary to pursue a multitude of careers in the performing arts and beyond.
