What will the minor in artificial intelligence teach me?
Artificial intelligence is transforming how people discover, design, communicate, create and make decisions. The minor in artificial intelligence gives students the technical foundation to understand how AI works, build new AI tools and techniques, and apply AI responsibly in their careers, shaping the future of a field that is reshaping the world. Through core courses and electives, students develop skills in programming, data mining, machine learning and deep learning.
Housed in the College of Engineering, this interdisciplinary minor combines technical rigor with flexible opportunities for students in engineering, science, business, health, the arts, journalism and other fields. Students learn both to use existing AI effectively and to build new AI tools and techniques. The minor is open to all University students, although some students may need additional prerequisite courses.
AI has the potential to reshape professions, industries and the structure of the economy. Engineers can develop novel AI systems, scientists can accelerate discoveries, health professionals can improve analysis and decision support, artists can create new forms of expression and leaders can redesign organizations and services. Whatever their major, students who understand AI will be better prepared to solve important problems and lead responsible change.
Students can extend their coursework through research and hands-on projects across the University. These experiences allow them to address meaningful problems, collaborate across disciplines and build a portfolio connecting AI with their interests and career goals.
